School Choice
School Choice
He will guide you on the right paths. (Prov. 3:6)
“You’re kidding, right?” my sister asked when I told her we’d decided to homeschool our daughters.
“No, we can’t afford the tuition at the Christian school any longer. We’ve prayed about it, and this is where God is leading us,” I said.
Several years ago when we first chose Christian school, we were criticized. One friend said, “They can’t be salt and light at school if everyone looks like they do.” Another friend, who had just done a major renovation on her home, commented that she just “couldn’t afford Christian school.” Others voiced concerns about academic excellence. So now that we’ve decided to homeschool, we know we’ll hear even more comments. Comments like, “What about socialization? What will you do about math and science?”
But we know God has a plan for our daughters (Jer. 29:11), and after much prayer we feel that homeschooling them is part of His plan for now.
Today parents face so many choices in education—public school, private school, Christian school, and various forms of homeschooling. The most important thing we can do as Christian parents is to seek the Lord and His will for our children. If His will for your children is public school, He will help you guide them through it. If it’s private school, He will provide the funds for you to keep them there. If it’s homeschool, He will lead you to the resources that will help you.
Remember to pray first. And know that whatever option you choose, you may face opposition. God gives us our children as a trust, and with His guidance we must choose His best for them. So don’t worry if others don’t agree with your choice. It’s really between you and the Lord.
