Seek Him
Seek Him
You will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart and all your soul. (Deut. 4:29)
A few months ago one of the vice presidents at my company wanted to know how employees in his department were spending their time. For several weeks my coworkers and I kept meticulous track of how much time we spent on our various duties. It was a tedious exercise for us, and we were all glad when we no longer had to account for every minute of our workday.
While I was relieved to be finished with the task, it made me wonder how I spent my time at home. I had become increasingly frustrated with the lack of time I felt I had for prayer time, Bible study, exercise, and sleep. So I began my own analysis in which I tracked duties like cleaning, cooking, laundry, entertainment, and so on.
After a couple of weeks, I was surprised to see how much time I spent on activities like watching TV and surfing the Internet. Could I really say I was seeking God with all my heart and soul? Apparently not. I was spending more time with the remote control and my computer mouse than I was with my Savior. I asked Him to help me seek Him first and always make Him my number-one priority.
God loves us and wants to spend time with us, but sometimes we fill the time we should be spending with Him with other activities. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with most of these things, we can’t allow them to take such a big chunk of our time that we don’t spend sufficient time seeking Him. If your schedule has become a problem, ask the Lord to help you put things back into balance and to give Him first place in your life and in your heart.
