Serving at Home
Serving at Home
Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Col. 3:17)
Celeste opened a birthday gift from her twin sister and was shocked to see a gift certificate to a glamorous day spa. Her twin, Sonya, had just opened her gift—a bag Celeste had made herself.
Sonya was a successful executive, and Celeste was a stay-at-home mom. They had always had so much in common, but right now Celeste felt like they inhabited two different planets. “I don’t know what to say, Sonya. This is really generous. I feel pretty hokey giving you a handmade purse.” Celeste started to tear up.
“I gave you a day at the spa because you work harder than anyone I know. How did you even have time to make me this beautiful purse? I’m not trying to make you feel bad with my gift; I’m honoring you because I think you’re amazing.”
Celeste gave her sister a huge hug. “In that case, will you keep the kids while I’m at the spa?” she asked with a smile.
Being a stay-at-home mom is both challenging and rewarding. It is kingdom work with eternal implications. Staying home with children requires a multitude of skills—teaching, managing the home, administrating, creating, cooking, and so much more. A newscast once reported that a stay-at-home mom would pull in $138,646 a year using her “mommy” skills in a workplace.
As Christians we know that whatever position we hold, we are working for God’s glory and out of love and obedience to Him. Moms, rest assured that God is honored in your labors of love, and He is the only One who can give strength and wisdom to fulfill such an important role. If you know a mom who is discouraged, affirm her today with the knowledge that God loves her and is with her in her daily work.
