Suit Up!
Suit Up!
This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day. (Eph. 6:13)
I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was nine years old. I knew that I was a sinner, that I loved Jesus, and that I wanted to live in heaven with Him.
I did not, however, realize what a formidable enemy we have. The night I asked Jesus to be my Savior, my foe Satan began his attack on my baby Christian heart. He shot the “flaming arrows” (Eph. 6:16) of doubt into my faith, and I didn’t know how to fight or defend myself. That’s when I discovered the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10–17.
Today my nine-year-old daughter has some of the same insecurities I had so I’m teaching her about the armor. When Satan whispers lies to her, we put on the belt of truth, remembering all she knows about Jesus, the Truth. When the enemy tries to worm his way into her heart with sin, the armor of righteousness is Jesus’ righteousness protecting her heart. The sandals of the “gospel of peace” will protect her soul from fear and doubt, just as shoes protect her feet. The “shield of faith” covers her entire life because she trusts God and knows He loves her. The “helmet of salvation” insulates her mind from lies, helping her remember what she knows about Jesus. The Bible is the “sword of the Spirit,” our only offensive weapon. By reading and knowing God’s Word, she’ll be able to discern good from bad. The glue that holds it all together is prayer.
This battle isn’t against people but against “spiritual forces of evil” (Eph. 6:12). The enemy’s goal is to wound, even silence, God’s children. Don’t let him. Suit up. Put on the armor of God every day. Besides, you’ll look good in bronze!
