The Truth

In the latter times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teaching of demons. (1 Tim. 4:1)

Tracy and Alicia finished packing up the shoe boxes containing Christmas gifts to send overseas and collapsed on the sofa. The TV was on, and a popular afternoon talk show was just beginning.

“Have you noticed how she has really gotten into New Age thinking and philosophy lately?” Alicia asked. Tracy nodded. “She has some programs that give great information, but I don’t know. It seems a little weird to me.”

“She’s done a lot of good, and she influences a tremendous number of people, but you need to separate the truth from the lies. On one of her programs she even denied that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven.”

“No way!” Tracy said. “I thought she was a Christian.”

Alicia shrugged. “We have to be careful of anything or anyone—no matter how famous they are or how much good they do—that would lead us away from God’s truth. He doesn’t want us to be deceived.”

Today there are many messages out there—messages telling us that we are little gods, that if we’re good enough we can get into heaven, that a good God would not send people to hell, or that all roads lead to Him. As Christians we need to know the truth—the real truth, not outright error or partial truth. Jesus is the way, the only way. In John 14:6, He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” And Paul said in Galatians 1:8, “If we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel other than what we have preached to you, a curse be on him!” If what they’re saying doesn’t line up with Scripture, don’t buy it.
