Tight Times
Tight Times
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Ps. 20:7 niv)
Bruce and Aimee called their daughters into the kitchen for a family meeting. “Girls, things have been slow at work lately, and our budget is tight. So we’re very sorry to tell you we won’t be doing our annual beach trip this year.”
The girls looked worried and disappointed. “I understand why we can’t go, but are you going to lose your job, Dad?” Lauren asked.
“No, sweetie, I don’t think so. It’s just important for us to be wise with our resources. This is a prime time to remember that God is in control and He always provides for us.”
“My friend Kayla’s dad lost his job, and now they have to move,” Cassie said fearfully.
“Many people are facing tough times, but our future is in God’s hands. He knows our needs, and He cares for us,” Aimee explained. “Now, about spring break—how about a camping trip to the mountains? That’s easy on the budget, and we’ll have a blast. Maybe you could invite Kayla along.”
Both girls grinned at each other. “S’mores!” they yelled in unison.
God puts us in families to love one another, support one another, and point one another toward Him while glorifying Him in our decisions and actions. Difficult times are often when we learn to trust Him the most, leaning hard on His promises and drawing near to Him in prayer. Emphasize to your kids that you are not alone; God cares for His children and provides for them. Then when God comes through with an unexpected blessing, share the joy and thank Him together as a family. Be honest about changes that will impact each of you, but demonstrate faith in God’s provision and His care. Your children will learn from your example.
