What great nation is there that has a god near to it as the Lord our God is to us whenever we call to Him? (Deut. 4:7)
Friend of God
You are a friend of God. Let that sink in. God calls you His friend. Our relationship with Him is what makes Christianity different from other religions. From the beginning of recorded history, God has been close to His people. When Moses asked whether any other nation had a god who was near at hand, who listened and heard from them, the answer was no and none!
No other people can say they’re as close to their god as we are to the One True God. God is near to us all the time. The Creator of the universe is only a prayer away. And just as God guided His people in Moses’ time, He guides us today by His Spirit and through His written Word, the Bible.
His Story
God gives us His Word so we can know Him. Though we can never know God exhaustively—the Infinite can never be fully apprehended by the finite—we can learn a great deal about our all-powerful, never-changing, ever-present Lord through the pages of the Bible. Yet statistics show Christians are getting into God’s Word less frequently.
But if we’re friends with God, certainly we’d want to know Him. What is His character? What does He say? What has He done? How does He want us to act? It’s all there in the Bible.
