Mountains

God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment. (2 Tim. 1:7)

Power

It’s important to know what you’ve got, and God says that you have been given power—all the power (and love and sound judgment) you need to conquer fear. But if you don’t think you’ve got what it takes, you won’t rely on the resources God has given you to overcome the insidious enemy of fear.

Think of it this way: Can you imagine a race car driver who doesn’t know what he has under the hood? Of course not! Those guys know exactly how much power they have, and they want as much as possible. As a Christian, you have all the power you’ll ever need, but you’ve got to believe it and act accordingly. Otherwise your whole life will just putter along, bogged down by fear and unbelief.

Love

Love governs power and directs it. We’re given grace not only for ourselves but also for the benefit of others. When our goal is to love and we feel empowered to do so, knowing that we are connected to the source of all love, the sky is the limit. Just imagine if your continual controlling thought was that you have been put on this earth to love, and you have the power of heaven at your disposal to fulfill this calling and mission. That kind of thinking leaves fear in the dust. And it produces the kind of “sound judgment” that doesn’t waste time on lesser things.

Bottom Line

Today’s verse is a great one to memorize, believe, and live out. Sadly, fear renders a lot of Christians ineffective and unhappy. Fight back with faith.
