I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. (Rev. 21:2)
Can’t Put It into Words
Elsie was blind from birth. She underwent delicate eye surgery and, upon seeing for the first time, rushed into her mother’s arms and screamed with excitement, “Oh, Mama, why didn’t you tell me it was so beautiful?” The mother, through tears of joy, answered, “My precious child, I tried to tell you, but I couldn’t put it into words.”
John the apostle, who caught a glimpse of heaven, couldn’t adequately put it into words either. He used images. Heaven is “the Holy City”—a place of provision and plenty; “new Jerusalem”—something altogether different in kind; “a bride adorned for her husband”—a place of beauty and purity.
You Just Have to See It
The great pastor R. G. Lee said, “Heaven is the most beautiful place the mind of God could conceive and the hand of God could create.” Heaven is so indescribable that the only way to fully understand it is to see it for yourself. It’s like trying to describe the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone to someone who has never been there. Words fail you; pictures don’t do it justice. Eventually you have to say: “Well, you’ve just got to go there.” Once in heaven the thought will hit you: Why did I spend so much time trying to make my stay on earth more comfortable when I had the eternal joy and indescribable delight of heaven awaiting me?
Bottom Line
Heaven, the most beautiful place imaginable, is the one place you don’t want to miss.
