Gifts and Talents

Mountains

The man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more. (Matt. 25:16)

Treasure Bestowed

God has given each of us spiritual gifts, and He wants us to put them to work for the progress of His kingdom. (See 1 Corinthians 12 for a list of spiritual gifts and the call to employ them.)

An unused gift is a buried talent, and a buried talent earns no profit for the Master. If you know what your gifts are, it is time to take an honest inventory. Are you using your gifts in a tangible, consistent way? How? Where? When? Who is benefiting from the gifts God has given you? You are a steward of them.

Unbury the Gold

It pleases God enormously when we use our gifts, talents, and time in the work of the kingdom. The ways we serve can differ radically, but each act of service delights God. Some guys love to mentor young believers. Some are gifted in acts of practical service for those in need. Some are teachers. Some are encouragers. Some share the gospel with ease. Some are outstanding administrators. Some excel at acts of mercy.

There is a ministry with your name on it. So if you have buried your talent, dig it up! You have a unique role to fulfill. Put your gifts to use for the benefit of the body of Christ. When you do, you’ll discover that your relationship with God grows too.

Bottom Line

God has entrusted you with at least one powerful spiritual gift, and the more you use it the more He will accomplish through you.
