Faith of a Father
Faith of a Father

Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” (Gen. 22:8)
Father of Faith
Abraham’s faith is credited with leading him through God’s test in Genesis 22. When God told Abraham to sacrifice the son he loved, the centenarian packed up his donkey, grabbed Isaac, and headed to the mountains. Abraham trusted God even when God asked him to give up what he loved most.
But what about Isaac’s role in the story? Surely the strapping young man could’ve overpowered his hundred-year-old father or run away. Yet Isaac helped Abraham carry the wood and believed his dad when he said, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering” (Gen. 22:8). Isaac even allowed Abraham to bind him, lay him on the altar, and raise a knife to slay him.
Faith Foundation
Have you wondered what gave Isaac the faith to follow God’s plan? One word: Abraham. Isaac had seen God active and powerful in Abraham’s life. He had seen his father’s trust in the one true God. He had heard the stories of God’s provision. He had seen Abraham walk consistently with God. He had heard Abraham talk to God, and he had witnessed God’s answers to prayer. Isaac’s foundation of faith was solid because of Abraham.
Just as Isaac watched Abraham, our children are watching us. Would they be willing to put their lives on the line for the Lord because they’ve seen great faith in us?
Bottom Line
Do you talk about what God is doing in your life and share His goodness with your children? Set aside some time to do just that.
