How to Fire a Pastor
How to Fire a Pastor

If I say, “I won’t mention Him or speak any longer in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones. I become tired of holding it in, and I cannot prevail. (Jer. 20:9)
Pastors Want the Fire
The prophet Jeremiah was not unlike any other pastor. He had his ups and downs. But he was reminded that God had a calling on his life, and he described God’s calling to preach the Word like a “fire” within his inmost being. All pastors want to feel that fire as they preach and minister.
But our overfed generation can breakfast with Lucado in the morning, feast on Swindoll in the afternoon, and have MacArthur for dinner. And then we wonder why our local pastor doesn’t measure up! His illustrations aren’t as sharp, his jokes not as funny, and his points not as lucid. So we go home and have roasted preacher for lunch.
Be the Spark
Do you want to fire your pastor or “fire up” your pastor? He needs faithful men standing in the gap for him. Here are some ways you can help:
Pray for him and then tell him you did. Take him out for a meal and just listen. Go to his office and compliment instead of complain. Take him to a ball game or play golf with him. Buy him a book. Better yet, buy him a techie gadget that you know he can’t afford. Make your pastor glad to see you coming. You’ll be surprised how it will affect your ears as you hear his next sermon.
Bottom Line
Your pastor needs you more than you can imagine.
