We demolish arguments and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ. (2 Cor. 10:4–5)
How Do You Decide?
Whether you like it black and thick as mud, or semiclear with a shot of cream and sugar, nobody likes grounds in their coffee. The quality of good coffee depends on the quality of the filter to strain out that which isn’t good. Likewise, the quality of a good Christian life depends on having a biblical filter by which we strain out all information that doesn’t line up with God’s Word.
Everyone has a worldview, a systematic way of looking at the world. Everything we hear, see, and think passes through a filter as it goes into our minds and hearts. Questions for the Christ follower are: Do you have a biblical worldview? Do you see the world and people the way God sees them? Or does something else determine how you go about choosing what information is true and what is not?
Every Thought Captive
How do you develop a worldview? By taking every thought captive to obey Christ. Every image you see, ask yourself the question, “Does dwelling on this honor Christ?” Every word you are tempted to say, ask yourself, “Does this further the kingdom of God?” Every news report you hear, ask yourself, “Does what they are saying line up with what the Bible says is true?” Before long you will develop a strong biblical filter that will develop wisdom and discernment inside of you. And you will find this wisdom and discernment sweet to your soul.
Bottom Line
Ask God to develop a strong biblical filter inside your heart and mind.
