The Key to Patience

Mountains

Love is patient, love is kind. (1 Cor. 13:4)

God Made Us Different

There are subtle but significant differences in the emotional makeup of women and men, just as there are subtle but significant differences between a daisy and a bazooka. Men and women are wired so very differently. Any guy who wants to be happily married should expend some effort in studying the emotional and biological differences between men and women.

Things that bother women don’t bother us. Little distractions and annoyances can really impact a woman’s willingness or even ability to enjoy sex, while men would not be distracted even if mortars were falling. And while small gifts and flowers may do zero for you, it is amazing how important these tokens of affection can be to your wife.

Take Time to Understand

Understanding these male-female differences will go a long way in helping a guy learn to be patient with his wife. For a woman everything is connected to everything else. In many cases fixing the faucet or the noise in the dryer or some other little household thing for your wife can make a huge difference in how she feels. On some days it may be that the most romantic thing you can do is the dishes, or to take the kids to the park so your wife can curl up with a book.

Accommodate your differences rather than let them frustrate you. Take the time to understand how God made your wife. You’ll both be much happier.

Bottom Line

The more you understand and celebrate the way God made men and women different, the more patient and happy you will be with your wife—and vice versa.
