Good Directions
Good Directions

Plans fail when there is no counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. (Prov. 15:22)
Behind the Wheel
What do Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Meriwether Lewis, and Ferdinand Magellan have in common? They’re explorers, but more important, they’re men. The itch to explore runs in a man’s blood. Maybe that’s why when we get behind the wheel of a car, we feel the burning desire to just go. Forget directions. Unplug the GPS. We’ll get to our destination by using our internal compass and sheer force of will. That doesn’t always work so well, though, does it?
Not surprisingly, many men view their marriage a lot like their driving. We have some idea of where we want to go, and even if it means getting lost a couple of times, we’re confident we’ll get there in the end. But this attitude can sometimes ruin the journey for our passenger.
On the Right Road
Asking for directions is good advice while driving and in a marriage. Like the proverb says, look for “counsel” from other “advisers.” Check with people who are familiar with the territory to make sure you’re heading in the right direction. Seek marital advice from godly friends, your pastor, Christian resources, a church small group, and even your wife. By getting some good counsel, you’ll get where you want to go on time and intact.
Bottom Line
To have a safe and fun journey in your marriage, ask for advice. With a little direction your relationship with your wife can thrive.
