Finding a Better Dad
Finding a Better Dad

The Lord will not forsake His people or abandon His heritage. (Ps. 94:14)
AWOL Fathers
A lot of guys have a deep wound caused by their dads bailing out on them. The father was either not there at all, was in and out, was emotionally distant, or was abusive. In many cases, no matter how much the wounded son longs for the restoration of the relationship, it is never going to happen. Guys can waste a lot of emotional energy hoping things will change, waiting for the affirmation that never comes. As hard as this sounds, sometimes we just need to let go of the bad dad and get a new one.
New Day, New Dad
God offers to be a “father of the fatherless” (Ps. 68:5)—the Dad who never lets you go, never lets you down, never rips you off, and never breaks your heart. He loves you beyond what you can imagine, His commitment to you is rock solid, and He will bring ultimate justice to the unrepentant people who have hurt you. No words can capture what you mean to Him.
Ask God to open your eyes to the Father love He has for you. And almost as important, let God love you through other men who walk with the Lord. None of us is strong enough to go through life without the help and encouragement of our brothers. We need the love of our heavenly Father, but we also need a band of brothers to make it real.
Bottom Line
If your dad is out of your life, your Father in heaven wants to fill the aching void. Invite Him to do that, and get the help of other men too.
