Mountains

Let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Matt. 5:16)

Rodney and Ginger

While explaining to his kids why he tries to be a good role model to them, Rick made the comment that he might be the only “Jesus” they ever see. The kids thought about it for a second, then one of them replied, “We see Jesus in Rodney and Ginger too.”

Rodney and Ginger could not possibly have received a more sincere compliment. They had become close friends of the family through Little League baseball, and the way they lived their lives had left a lasting impression on Rick’s kids. We need to remember that people are always watching us. We’re always representing Christ. That ought to turn us back toward Him instead of relying on ourselves to try making a good impression.

Seeing Jesus

Letting Christ’s light shine through you doesn’t mean you’re out to impress anybody. It’s actually just the opposite. The good works you do are for the benefit of others and for the glory of God without regard for your own reputation. That doesn’t mean you and your reputation don’t benefit from the good things you do, but this shouldn’t be your primary motivation.

Take a moment to do a quick evaluation of how things are going in your own walk with Christ. Are you letting your light shine? Are you seeking to glorify God? That’s your calling, and Christ will enable you to do it.

Bottom Line

Let your light shine. And know that God will provide everything you need for this to happen.
