Eye Exam

They have eyes full of adultery and are always looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse! (2 Pet. 2:14)
Spiritual Myopia
What do others see when they look into your eyes? Bold commitment? Or pride and arrogance? Our eyes really can be a window to our soul.
From the beginning, man was seduced by Satan with the thought that he could have eyes that would be opened so he could “be like God” (Gen. 3:5). Later in Proverbs 6:17, “arrogant eyes” are listed first among seven things God hates. We’re also told that “a fool’s way is right in his own eyes” (Prov. 12:15) and not to set anything worthless before our eyes (see Ps. 101:3). Our eyes are important.
Looking into the Light
Jesus declared that our eyes are either good or bad, depending on what we fix them on (see Matt. 6:22–23). If we see Jesus as truly worth following, our bodies will be filled with the light of Christ. If we don’t, our bodies will be full of darkness. We see a picture of this darkness in today’s verse where Peter warns against false Christians with corrupt, fleshly eyes that lead both them and others into sin.
It’s only by “keeping our eyes on Jesus” (Heb. 12:2) that we’re able to follow Him in obedience. It’s a matter of focus, and it’s not impossible. Thankfully, we have been given the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to help us see.
Bottom Line
Your spiritual eyes reflect what is already in your heart, but they can also change your heart. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and you’ll have a good heart.
