Don’t Get Burned

Mountains

Can a man embrace fire and his clothes not be burned? (Prov. 6:27)

Sin by Any Other Name . . .

OK, so it’s not hard-core porn. Does that make it any less sinful? Be honest—when you see an old girlfriend on Facebook, does your mind wander off into fantasy land? Is her marital status one of the first things you check? Do you start wondering what life would have been like if you had married her instead of your current wife? If so, let’s hope you’re wearing asbestos pants because you’re scooping fire into your lap.

An affair doesn’t have to be physical in order to defraud your wife and dishonor God. An emotional affair can hurt just as deeply. It’s a slippery slope, a slow burn, moving from an innocent “Hey, how are you?” to sharing more intimate details about your life. Have you shared any inappropriate information about your marriage with another woman on Facebook?

. . . Smells Just as Fishy

“People loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil,” says John 3:19. Do you quickly delete anything on your computer or text messages on your phone? Are you currently having a conversation with another woman that you would not want your wife or pastor to know about? If so, you’re walking in darkness. Make no mistake—your deeds will be brought to light. You’re playing with fire, and even asbestos pants won’t save you. It’s not a question of if, but when, you will get burned.

Bottom Line

Your heart is capable of great deception—don’t fall for its lies!
