Grounded in History

Mountains

After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3)

Eyes Wide Open

Becoming a Christian requires a leap of faith but not a blind leap. Anyone who receives Jesus does so by faith, but this faith rests on a mountain of evidence.

We were not there to see the resurrection with our own eyes, but the New Testament records many compelling accounts from those who were, not to mention repeated passages from the Old Testament (such as Isa. 53 and Ps. 22, written centuries beforehand) that so precisely detail the crucifixion and resurrection that it’s hard to explain them away. Many of the early disciples suffered brutal deaths rather than deny their assertion that Jesus had risen from the grave and had spoken with them repeatedly. And how do we explain the conversion of the once rabidly anti-Christian Saul of Tarsus, who repeatedly stated that the resurrected Jesus had personally appointed him an apostle?

A Rational Leap

No one alive today ever saw George Washington take the oath of office, but we all believe he was the first United States president. Why? Because the history is so compelling. The faith to believe it is reasonable and rational. And the more you dig into the Bible, the more you’ll find the same thing. You will discover the story of Jesus so powerful that you are willing to stake your life on it. And the more you stake your life on it, the stronger your faith will grow.

Bottom Line

You can stand firm on the evidence that Jesus was crucified to pay for our sins and rose on the third day.
