Christ, Our Champion
Christ, Our Champion

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; He triumphed over them by Him. (Col. 2:15)
The Great Battle
The cross of Christ was the climactic battle of an ages-old cosmic war. At the cross Jesus battled against every evil force that had attacked humanity. Sin was there in all its ugliness, demanding condemnation and wrath. When sin galloped in, death came riding on its back. Hell clamored to devour the Savior. Satan and his hosts swooped in to destroy Him. The concentrated powers of darkness did battle against one Man, all alone: the God-Man versus the powers of evil that would destroy our lives and bring darkness over the universe.
The Triumphal Procession
When the battle seemed fiercest, Jesus cried out the words humanity had longed to hear since the fall. He announced to angels, demons, humans, heaven, hell, and the devil: IT IS FINISHED! Sin was paid in full. The death of Christ meant the death of death. Hell lost its claim on humankind. And Satan and his hosts were disarmed and put to public disgrace.
One day we will join Him in a triumphant procession, celebrating our Champion and casting our crowns at His feet. Death, hell, and Satan will have received their just punishments. And God’s people will step into their full victory in Christ. Until then we live by faith in the One who gives us the victory—the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and Victorious King! Thanks be to God! Victory is assured!
Bottom Line
The cross was a battlefield, and Jesus Christ emerged the all-time, undisputed, undefeated Champion over sin, death, and the enemies of God.
