Mountains

Everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ. More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. (Phil. 3:7–8)

The Eagle Has Landed

Hundreds of millions watched on TV as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon. Twelve men eventually stepped out onto the lunar surface in subsequent Apollo missions, and several later struggled with what to do next in their lives. After all, how do you possibly top something like that? At an average age of early to mid-forties, the most impressive accomplishment of their lives was over and done with, never to be repeated.

Addicted to Adrenaline

Of course, millions of men tend to get caught up in that next big thing. They didn’t walk on the moon, but they might have written a book or brokered a huge deal at the office. Later the emptiness is hard to shake. It’s almost as if they’re addicted to the adrenaline rush that comes with accomplishment.

God understands (and created) our need for adventure and achievement, but we must also understand that our enemy, the devil, will trick us into thinking we can only scratch our itch for excitement in a small handful of arenas. Ask God to widen your scope, discovering His full joy and enthusiasm wherever you are—at home, with your family, in serving Him, in worshipping Him.

Bottom Line

No matter how impressive your accomplishments might be, a right relationship with Christ matters most in life.
