Putting Passion to Work

Mountains

It was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. (Ps. 139:13)

Trudging Along

Is what you do for a living the same as what you do for an income? Pause for a moment to think about this question. How closely aligned are your interests and talents with where you spend your time? Does your income-providing job make you feel alive? Does it use the strengths and talents God purposely gave you when He designed you?

If the answer to any of the above is “no,” it doesn’t mean you should rush out and quit your job! That’s not likely the wise path. Many of us have jobs that don’t use all of our strengths. But Scripture teaches us that God was purposeful and deliberate when He made us. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and He has a plan for using each one of us “to build up the body of Christ” (Eph. 4:12).

Running with Purpose

Take some time this week to evaluate where your interests and particular skills are. Make a list of your interests on a piece of paper, then spend time in prayer asking God to show you how He wants you to use those interests to serve Him. You might even talk with someone on your church’s staff, since many churches have tools to help men discover their place of service within the body of Christ and their communities.

Bottom Line

God created you to be a useful, necessary part of His body. Serve Him with your strengths.
