Married for Good
Married for Good

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.” (Gen. 2:18)
Healthy Relationship
For decades scientists have studied the health effects of being married versus remaining single. While some recent studies have suggested the health advantages of marriage may be fading, experts still agree that people live longer, healthier, and more satisfying lives as couples rather than individuals.
Of course, researchers could’ve saved themselves a lot of time and money by reading the first few pages of the Bible because as the verse above explains, “God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone.’” And as it always seems to happen, scientists have proven God right . . . again.
Marriage Checkup
Did you know that a divorced man is six times more likely to die of cirrhosis of the liver than a married man? Or that men who socialize with their wife and friends tend to live nine more years than socially disconnected people? Also, multiple studies have shown that on average, married people are happier than unmarried people of the same age.
So the next time your marriage goes through a bumpy stretch, take time to thank God for your wife and remember all the benefits of being married. Then lean over to your lifelong partner and give her a big kiss. For a 180-pound man, kissing burns about a hundred calories per hour—and that’s good for you too.
Bottom Line
Work hard to have a good marriage. The health, spiritual, and relational benefits are worth it.
