Holy Fire
Holy Fire

The Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. (Deut. 4:24)
Camp Out
Summer is the perfect time to gather the family and go camping. According to the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, thirty million Americans go camping every year. While getting away from it all and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation is wonderful, many men (and especially boys) would argue the best part of camping is the campfire. The crackle of the logs. The smell of burning pine. The glow of the embers. The conversation and the stories. A campfire provides safety, warmth, and pleasure—all things that God gives to us.
Consuming Fire
In the Bible, God is compared to or appears as fire or light more than a hundred times. Who can forget God speaking to Moses through the burning bush or leading His people by a pillar of fire? The prophets Zechariah and Malachi said God will use fire to refine us to make us more like Him. And in Deuteronomy 4:24—as well as in a number of other places throughout the Bible—God is referred to as “a consuming fire.”
The Lord wants to consume us. He desires total devotion in every area of our lives. His fire burns in us—purifying us and helping to strengthen us to stand strong for Him. But just as a campfire must be stoked, we must also fuel our flame for God through prayer, Bible reading, and Christian fellowship. Then we will glow brightly in His power.
Bottom Line
God demands every part of our being. Burn brightly for Him.
