Plan B
Plan B

I will repay you for the years that the swarming locust ate. . . . You will praise the name of Yahweh your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. My people will never again be put to shame. (Joel 2:25–26)
Not What You Imagined
Look around. Do you know anyone whose life has turned out exactly the way he scripted it? (Well, OK, there may be that one guy who just seems to get every break.) But seriously, most of us, at least some of the time, are tempted to think we must be on God’s “Plan B” at this point, if not some other letter much farther down in the alphabet.
But whether we feel we’re off-track because of our own unwise decisions or because of things life has thrown at us that seem completely out of our control, or some combination of the above, we are tempted to despair when our plans, hopes, and dreams come crashing down around us. We think God has abandoned us. And when that happens, we’re in serious danger of making things worse by living faithlessly and compounding our situation with more bad decisions.
Faith and Hope
Consider this: your Plan B is not necessarily God’s Plan B. Theologically, it can’t be. Besides, He’s the master of piecing together beautiful, redemptive stories out of lots of broken, disparate parts. So when you’re confused and discouraged by life, choose to live by faith anyway. Choose to maintain your hope in God’s faithfulness and His good plan.
Bottom Line
When life is confusing and discouraging, cling to God’s promises. Choose to live with hope even when it’s hard.
