The Law of Inversion

Mountains

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matt. 6:10)

Invasion

The Lord’s Prayer is not a hopeful wish that someday we’ll have a piece of the “sweet by and by” in heaven. When we pray “Your kingdom come,” we’re asking for a full-out invasion of even greater proportions than D-day in World War II. We’re asking God to invade our world and bring about radical changes on earth.

When God’s kingdom comes, all the price tags get switched. The world’s way of thinking gets overturned. The rich share with the poor. The authorities in power sling a towel over their arms and serve the weak. Those at the head of the line are demoted, and those at the back of the line are promoted.

Be a Kingdom Bringer

If you decide to pray this prayer—I mean, really pray it—you should know that when God’s kingdom storms the beachhead of this world, many little kingdoms will be threatened and start pushing back. The ultimate rule and reign of Jesus always faces opposition. His mission to bring the kingdom to this world puts Him on a collision course with some powerful forces. And a follower of Christ should expect no less.

How can you be a part of the invading force? Forgive someone you’ve been resenting. Confront someone you’re afraid of. Demonstrate humility when everyone else is climbing the ladder. Because in the kingdom of God, the law of inversion is the law of the land. Giving becomes receiving.

Bottom Line

Be a kingdom bringer by being a constant kingdom receiver of the grace and power of God.
