Man among Men

Mountains

The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

The Incarnation

Jesus Christ—Lord of all. Sometimes in worship the emphasis falls more heavily on Jesus’ divinity than on His humanity. He was, after all, the Son of God, and He wouldn’t be worthy of our worship if that weren’t the case. That being said, it’s just as important to remember that Christ was also fully human. He walked, talked, ate, mourned, suffered, and died. In many ways He was a man just like us. Part of the miracle of the incarnation is that in entering our world as a man and eventually going to the cross for us, Jesus knew exactly what He was leaving behind. He gave up bliss for pain, power for weakness. Yet He did it anyway.

Third Day

Because Jesus was fully human, He can relate to the things we go through. He knows from firsthand experience what it feels like to be happy, sad, tempted, angry, frustrated, and so on. In that sense we approach Him on even ground, knowing He understands our struggles as finite human beings since He’s been one Himself.

Of course, the story doesn’t end with the crucifixion. On the third day after His death, Jesus was raised from the dead. And He wasn’t just some ghost—far from it. He was very much alive, a fact to which several hundred people could testify. Today He lives to intercede for us from heaven as the eternal God-Man worthy of all our worship.

Bottom Line

Because Jesus became a man, He truly understands our human struggles. Because He is divine, He deserves our worship.
