Generosity’s Gain
Generosity’s Gain

One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. (Prov. 11:24)
The Paradox
Question: Do you think the less you give away, the more you will have? A lot of people live that way, and consequently they never experience God’s financial blessings. It’s one of those divine paradoxes that defies conventional wisdom: we become richer by being generous. The more we give, the more God supplies so we can give even more away. That’s why financial security and generosity are inseparable. God wants us to be generous with what He’s given us because if we are, He will give us more. This isn’t some “health and wealth” principle we can use to manipulate God. It’s just that God is generous to those who are generous.
The Reasons
Here are three reasons to give. First, it’s a statement of gratitude. We realize all that we have comes from God. Second, it’s a statement of priority. We acknowledge that God is first in our life. And third, it’s a statement of faith. We trust that God will take care of us in the future as we faithfully give.
Many people think we should give to God after all the bills are paid. But the Bible commands us to give our first and our best to God so we can see Him accomplish amazing things in our lives. We give not because God wants something from us but because He wants something for us. Make giving a lifelong practice, and watch God work.
Bottom Line
Giving pays in the long run. God rewards those who give generously. So plan to give, and watch God work in your life.
