Friends of God
Friends of God

I do not call you slaves anymore, because a slave doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from My Father. (John 15:15)
Who Are Your Friends?
I am a friend of God! Now that’s a line worth saying three times in a row—especially when you realize it’s the words of Jesus, talking about you! But friendship has several levels. You’ve probably got some guys at work who will talk March Madness with you. And a couple of guys in your Bible study class have become close friends. And your old college roommate is a special friend even though he lives across the country now. But to be friends with God? Doesn’t that require something extra?
Well, Jesus did everything necessary for you to have a relationship with the Father. And you can’t add anything to your salvation. But it is a relationship, which means it’s a two-way street with regard to communication.
Levels of Friendship
One level is simply talking to God through prayer. And this is important. But your other friends would soon leave if you always did all the talking. A second level of friendship is listening to God. This requires slowing down and giving Him and His Word your full attention. But the deepest level of friendship is simply being with God. You know you’re with your best friend when you’re both comfortable with the silence and you don’t have to do anything to be content with each other. That’s possible with God too.
Bottom Line
Ask God to deepen your friendship with Him. That’s a prayer He absolutely delights to answer.
