Mountains

Yahweh, if You considered sins, Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be revered. (Ps. 130:3–4)

The Drowning Victim

We are often like Raymond in the movie Rain Man. Every time someone offended him, he would record the infraction in his spiral notebook. What an unhappy practice! Aren’t you glad God is not like that? We commit some horrible offenses. We hurt others with our words; we sting others with our actions. If God kept a record of all our sins, we would be like a drowning victim on the open ocean without any hope of rescue. We’d be goners for sure.

The Powerful Rescuer

But instead God offers forgiveness, a pardon for our sin and release from our guilt. In fact, God makes a habit of forgiving sin. Forgiveness of sins is nothing less than the embrace of a loving God around sinful man. Here’s the picture: We are drowning in the despair of our sin, knowing we will perish if help doesn’t come. But God, in His love and mercy, reaches out to us, offering forgiveness. His grip saves us and His mercy pardons us from the penalty of sin.

Are you in the depths of despair due to your transgressions? You can’t continue to keep breaking the rules without reaping some serious consequences. But whenever you are ready to come clean, the Lord is waiting to forgive you and restore you. He is an expert rescuer with His amazing grace.

Bottom Line

It’s never easy to confess your sins, but if you do, pardon is waiting. Don’t pretend; come clean and be free. Do you need to confess anything right now?
