God Cares for You
God Cares for You

Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord cares for me. (Ps. 27:10)
Fear of Abandonment
A lot of men feel as if they have to do life on their own. They may have many reasons, but one primary reason is that their family of origin has often communicated this message in subtle or not-so-subtle ways. We can hear a lot about the need to work hard, be independent, and figure things out for ourselves. Some of that is good, but maybe some of it isn’t so good.
While we may not have actually been abandoned by our family, we can feel a sense of abandonment if they weren’t there for us during crucial times of development and decision-making. Just sit in any men’s group for a little while and you’ll discover how many men feel as though everything is up to them. That’s a lonely place to be, and it’s not what God intends for His adopted sons.
Part of a New Family
As a member of God’s family, you are never alone. We’re promised in Psalm 27:10 that even if our parents abandon us, God never will. He cares about us. He’s always with us. He wants to guide us and help us. He loves us! And because He loves us, He graciously puts people in our lives who will stick with us—imperfectly, yes, but faithfully nonetheless. As we learn to trust other people and rely on them for help, we learn to trust God a little bit more too. That’s by design. God is creating a close-knit family.
Bottom Line
Going through life feeling all alone is an awful burden. Ask God to supply faithful friends and reach out to others too.
