Pass Down the Blessing
Pass Down the Blessing

May Yahweh bless you and protect you . . . may Yahweh look with favor on you and give you peace. (Num. 6:24, 26)
Mountaintop Connection
Dan and Caleb agreed to go on a father-son getaway in the Rocky Mountains, which is how you could describe their relationship—rocky. After a week of encouraging each other in rock climbing, studying the Bible together, and talking about dreams, they started seeing each other in a new way. On the final night dads were asked to stand up and say some words to their sons in front of the group.
Dan got up and looked his son in the eyes. “Caleb,” he said. But that’s the only word he could get out as he gripped his son in a bear hug and the two cried in each other’s arms. Several minutes passed before Dan got himself together to say, “Caleb, the Lord bless you and protect you.”
Bless Your Children
In the Old Testament, God instructed the priests to bless the Israelites. Many cultures contain ceremonies that allow parents to bless their children. Sadly many Christian fathers miss out on this important rite of passage. Our kids long for our blessing. They desire to hear the words “I love you” and to know their fathers are proud of who they are, not for what they can accomplish.
The Bible records numerous times when fathers blessed their sons. Make sure to pass on the blessing to your children. It will have an immeasurable impact on their confidence in your love for them and even in their confidence in their heavenly Father’s love.
Bottom Line
Create a plan to have a time of blessing for your teenage children.
