The Master’s Example
The Master’s Example

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. (Eph. 5:25)
The Love of the Lord
Once there was a Great High God. He was Lord Eternal, Sustainer of all, and Creator of all. He was the Lord God Almighty. He was all-knowing, all-powerful, and undefeatable. His justice, righteousness, and perfection were without end, as was His love for the man and woman He had created.
But then, tragically, the Lord’s beloved fell. The first man and woman chose to disobey God and wander away from the only secure source of love they had ever known. Their fall from innocence set the path the rest of humanity would follow. Disobedience and perpetual chasing after false gods became the norm. But thankfully, that’s not the end of the story. God wouldn’t give up on His people. He would send a rescuer, His own Son.
The Example of the King
This Messiah, this Rescuer King, this Husband of the bride, is our example in all things. The Bible doesn’t provide a lot of specific instructions for husbands, but it does tell us the most important thing: love your wife as Christ loves you.
How can you possibly do this? On your own, it’s impossible, “but with God all things are possible” (Matt. 19:26). Start by praying for your wife daily. Be sure to forgive quickly and seek forgiveness even quicker. Ask the Lord to help you be patient and understanding. Look for ways to serve and support her. Jesus will help every step of the way.
Bottom Line
The only way you can love your wife well is if you’re experiencing Christ’s love for you. He is the source.
