Following Orders
Following Orders

God is not a God of disorder but of peace. (1 Cor. 14:33)
Out of Order
Have you ever seen a little boy put on a sweater? He puts button one in hole two, then button two in hole three, and so on until he runs out of buttons. He ends up “sidegoggling” because he began out of order. Our God is a God of order. Everything He does, He does according to order. When God’s creation follows His order, the result is harmony, fulfillment of purpose, and glory to Him. Whenever we see confusion or disaster in God’s creation, we know His order is not being followed.
The horrific breakdown of the home today indicates that humanity is not following God’s order for the home. More than a million children run away each year. The divorce rate is around 50 percent. Many couples choose to live together and not get married: it used to be love, marriage, baby carriage—now it’s love, baby carriage, and maybe marriage—not God’s plan.
House in Order
The Bible gives God’s order for the home in Ephesians 5:22–6:4: Christ is the head of the man, and the man heads up his wife and children in a loving, sacrificial way. Men, your leadership in the home is God ordained and should reflect Christ’s loving headship of the church. In a sacrificial way the man provides, protects, and guides his wife and children. Is your home “sidegoggling,” or is it working according to God’s order? There’s a big difference.
Bottom Line
God’s plan for you is to lovingly and sacrificially lead your wife and children. That’s the order of things. That’s how strong, happy families are built.
