Be a Warrior
Be a Warrior

The Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” (Judg. 6:12)
Unlikely Warrior
“Gideon, you’re a mighty warrior.” That message may have provoked laughter from Gideon as he stared in disbelief at the angel of the Lord who suddenly appeared to him outside his home. Gideon knew he was anything but a mighty warrior. He said, “Lord, how can I deliver Israel? . . . I am the youngest in my father’s house” (Judg. 6:15).
But what the Lord was telling Gideon is not that he was already a mighty warrior but that it was time for him to become a mighty warrior since the Lord promised to be with him. And so it is for every man of God who dares to follow God’s call on his life. We are mighty because God is with us.
Reluctant Warrior
What’s particularly noteworthy is that God met Gideon in the midst of his brokenness. Gideon was like most men—he’d just as soon stay away from conflict, taking a passive approach to life. But the time had come for action, and God was calling Gideon to step up and live with courage.
God purposely calls men like Gideon to the front lines where His strength can be put on full display. God outlines the battle plans, empowers the troops, and delivers the victories. God is still in the business of turning cowards into champions, Gideons into warriors. And we live in a world that’s desperate for this kind of strong leadership. Will you join the battle? Will you step up and fight?
Bottom Line
God calls every Christian man to fight for what’s right and to fight it in His strength.
