For Richer or Poorer
For Richer or Poorer

This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh. (Gen. 2:24)
Financial Foundation
If you want to stay richer, stay married. That’s the finding from a fifteen-year study of more than nine thousand people by Ohio State University’s Center for Human Resource Research. The best way to build wealth, the project determined, isn’t through savvy investments—it’s through marriage.
“If you really want to increase your wealth, get married and stay married,” research scientist Jay Zagorsky said. “On the other hand, divorce can devastate your wealth.”
Married people actually saw their wealth increase in greater ways than simply adding together the assets of two single people. Similarly, divorce caused a larger decrease of wealth than just splitting a couple’s assets in half.
Work That Really Pays
God designed marriage for a man to bond with his wife, enabling them to become “one flesh.” Staying together is part of God’s plan. It benefits each spouse physically, emotionally, spiritually, as well as financially. So working on your marriage is a great investment in multiple ways.
If you find it hard to be romantic with your wife but can be motivated by money, remember that these two things are more connected than you may think. Hold on to your wife. Put effort in making her feel loved. Be as conscientious at home as you are at the office. That’s good advice. And good financial sense too.
Bottom Line
All good things come from God—including your wealth and your wife.
