From Head to Heart
From Head to Heart

We have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. (1 John 4:16)
Our Common Struggle
Knowing the attributes of God can provide great comfort, and no attribute is more comforting than knowing that God is love. We were made to experience this. We sense it in our deepest being.
Yet while we know the Bible says God loves us—today’s verse is a great example of that—we often have a tough time believing it in a way that transforms our lives. While we may know it in our heads, we may not always believe it in our hearts. It can seem too good to be true, almost like wishful thinking.
Persistence Pays Off
How can we experience the love of God—or any of His attributes—in a greater way? The first and most important thing we can do is ask the Holy Spirit to help us experience what the Bible says is true. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask.” Luke 11:13 adds, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” And then Romans 5:5 declares: “God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” We receive God’s love through the Spirit’s work inside of us. Keep asking Him for more!
Bottom Line
The love of God is inexhaustible. He’s not rationing it out. But if we want to experience more of it, we will need to ask repeatedly and expectantly.
