Investing in Others
Investing in Others

Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices. (Heb. 13:16)
Too Poor to Invest
Investing our time in others is as life-giving for us as it is helpful for someone else. Yet we can come up with a dozen good reasons why we shouldn’t or can’t spend time with someone:
- I’m too busy at work to have a personal lunch.
- I’m too exhausted to take on something new.
- I’ve got too many problems of my own.
- My priority is spending quality time with my family.
- I’m not qualified to help someone else.
If you can identify with any of these, it’s probably because they’re all valid reasons. Some are even biblically correct, like prioritizing your family. Yet the imperative to invest in others is given over and over in Scripture. It’s a must.
Serious Investing
You don’t need a counseling degree or a problem-free life to walk alongside someone and encourage them in their spiritual journey. In fact, it’s often our scars and heartaches that help others relate to us. The key is being obedient to what God has called you to do. If God has laid someone on your heart or has shown you a way to use the gifts He’s given you, pray about how best to invest your time and talent so you can help. Then don’t be surprised when He multiplies what you give to others in your service to Him.
Bottom Line
God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called. Allow God to use you to help others.
