Walking With God
Walking with God

Lord God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping His gracious covenant with Your servants who walk before You with their whole heart. (2 Chron. 6:14)
The Goal
The Christian life is a relationship with God more than anything else. It’s not primarily a set of helpful life principles. It can’t be confined to a systematic theology textbook. And it certainly isn’t just the accumulation of various emotionally charged religious experiences, as wonderful as those often are. Again, at its heart, it’s about relating to God in a moment-by-moment, real relationship with all its ups and downs (due to our ups and downs), and with real communication back and forth.
As obvious as this description, it’s often just obvious enough to be overlooked. If we’re not careful, we can assume the obvious while it recedes farther and farther into the background of our thoughts and experience.
No Tightrope Walk
God is holy, and our relationship with Him will necessarily involve our transformation to be more like Him. (Thankfully, He rubs off on us and not vice versa.) This happens in us and to us as we obey the Holy Spirit’s promptings, which are in line with the Word He has inspired. But we don’t listen perfectly all the time. We stumble and fall. Thankfully, we’re not walking a tightrope with no net below. It’s more like we’re journeying with our Best Friend who offers us grace, forgiveness, and hope.
Bottom Line
Walking with God is life’s greatest joy. It’s also a great adventure. Our job is to trust and obey. God will take care of the rest.
