Job Placement

Give a portion to seven or even to eight, for you don’t know what disaster may happen on earth. (Eccles. 11:2)
Different Career Path
Climbing the corporate ladder isn’t what it used to be. For a long time in our nation’s history, it wasn’t unusual for a man to find a job, work hard for promotions, and stay at the same place for forty-plus years, retiring with the gold watch. That’s not the norm anymore. Recent numbers from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate the median number of years wage and salary workers have been with their current employer is 4.4, and the average worker will change careers (not just companies) three to five times during his life. You can’t rely on one business plan for security anymore.
Diversify
In a quickly changing economy, it may be wise to take the advice financial planners have been espousing for years: diversify. King Solomon was already suggesting this approach thousands of years ago, instructing people to “give a portion to seven or even to eight,” spreading out one’s money-making opportunities to create different revenue streams.
Handling today’s changes in the workforce as a result of sluggish economies and expanding technologies means continuing to learn how to do new things. Trust the wisdom of Scripture and the peace of God to direct you in providing for your family, even if the path isn’t as straight as it used to be.
Bottom Line
The only career you can count on is being God’s ambassador on earth. Do that job well, and look to Him for wisdom in work decisions.
