Leading Roles
Leading Roles

The Most High is ruler over the kingdom of men, and He gives it to anyone He wants. (Dan. 4:25)
The Test of Leadership
The Bible makes it clear that God places rulers in their positions. This does not mean they are all good leaders; some are profoundly evil. And when they stand before God in judgment, they will have much to answer for.
When God allows someone great authority, it is a test of leadership. In the passage surrounding today’s verse, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon failed the test miserably. Many leaders likewise fail. Israel had some awful rulers, too, but some (like David and Joseph) had a heart for God and for the good of the people. Whether good or bad, however, these leaders have their positions by the providence of God, and they hold their authority only as long as He allows it. So keep a sense of perspective whether your candidate wins or loses during election season.
The Leader in You
You may not hold an elected office, but God has nevertheless placed you in a sphere of leadership and influence. If you are married, you are the leader of your family. If you are single, you have friends, coworkers, and fellow Christians who are continually influenced by your leadership. Like it or not, you are a leader. Take that seriously as you interact with those God has placed in your life. You have an incredible capacity to influence people for good, but you will only be a good leader if you submit to the leadership of the Lord in your own life.
Bottom Line
To varying degrees, God has entrusted all men with a leadership role. He will richly reward those who lead well.
