Total You Makeover

Mountains

To all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12–13)

No Equals

We live in a pluralistic world where any and all beliefs, lifestyles, philosophies, and religious and political systems are held to be of equal value and must be tolerated and accepted. Further, it is common for individuals to hold different and sometimes widely divergent religious positions. There are those who will attend a Christian church on a Sunday morning, then some other religious service during the week, and may engage in all kinds of religious practices derived from Eastern and New Age religions. Such people will claim to hold Jesus in high regard but treat Him as one religious option among many.

All of Us

Over against the pluralism, religious syncretism, and widespread moral and spiritual confusion of our culture stands the clarity and authority of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only way to the Father (see John 14:6). Jesus creates a whole new spiritual race comprised of every people group on the planet. He’s not out to add one more religious option to the mix.

The radical nature of His mission is described in 2 Corinthians 5:17, where His people are said to be a “new creation”—that is, in Christ we become something we weren’t before. “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession” (1 Pet. 2:9). That’s a pretty thorough overhaul of the old you.

Bottom Line

Walk in the newness of life that Christ alone brings.
