Job Hunt

Mountains

The one who hires a fool or who hires those passing by is like an archer who wounds everyone. (Prov. 26:10)

Will to Work

If you have never been unemployed, you probably know somebody who has been—or is. As you look at your own career or try to help a friend get his on track, remember that God created us to work. He gifts each person with skills that can be used in the workplace and for His glory. Developing those skills so they fit into the current job market is a challenge, yes, but we must never give up. Even in the hardest, most discouraging, and desperate of times, God is still crafting us for usefulness.

On the Mark

Having faith in God and in the talents He’s given you can help you through a lengthy job search or during other difficult times in life. The financial constraints we feel during a season of uncertainty can cause us to lose sight of these basic truths, and the time constraints we place on God’s ability to act can twist our perspectives. But if we know we’re working to improve our skills, if we know we’re praying for God’s direction, if we know we’re willing to follow Him wherever He takes us, He can cause this ordeal to become preparation time for fulfilling His dreams for our lives.

While companies and employers are busy making their hiring decisions, trying to be smart with who they add to their payroll (as the verse above from Proverbs attests), we can be sure that when they hire us, they are taking on a person grown wiser for what he’s been through.

Bottom Line

Look to God for guidance in your career and when you’re helping others who are searching for work.
