Isn’t She Lovely?
Isn’t She Lovely?

You are absolutely beautiful, my darling. (Song of Songs 4:7)
Say the Words
“You are beautiful.” At every stage of her life, your wife needs to hear those words from you. Just as you easily commented on her beauty when your love was new, she needs you to affirm it in the decades of raising kids. And when you are both retired and wrinkled, she still needs to hear how lovely you find her to be.
Aging can be hard on anyone, but in a culture that almost worships youthfulness, it can be especially hard on a woman as she sees the difference between herself and the airbrushed models that are held out as the standard for beauty. She may struggle to feel she’s measuring up—that she’s still beautiful. You can help!
Words of Blessing
A woman is reassured when she hears her husband say she is beautiful. Beauty involves so much more than mere appearance. Tell her all of the wonderful, ageless characteristics you find so appealing about her. And as you age, remind each other often that we look forward to a future when God will give us new, glorious, eternal bodies. The years will take a toll on all of us, but God will more than reverse it. We are God’s church, His bride, and while He sees us as beautiful right now, He will makes us so glorious in the not-too-distant future that even the angels will be struck with awe.
Bottom Line
Your wife needs to hear you say the words, “You are absolutely beautiful to me.” Say it today, and say it often.
