Momentum
Momentum

Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your strength, because there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom in Sheol where you are going. (Eccles. 9:10)
Procrastination Kills
If you always wait until you feel like doing something, you won’t get much done. And what’s more, the rest and freedom you seek from not doing it won’t give you the happiness you hoped. The truth is, life is full of resistance. There are “thorns and thistles” everywhere we must fight through (see Gen. 3:18). And because facing tedious tasks and unpleasant responsibilities isn’t much fun, procrastination and avoidance are constant temptations.
As with any temptation, though, they are based on a lie—namely, the lie that we can escape pain and frustration if we pretend our obligations don’t exist. But as we all know in our saner moments, living in unreality doesn’t make things better; it only makes things worse. The Bible is the best reality check there is.
A Matter of Obedience
Taking care of business in our lives is not just a means to the end of greater personal effectiveness, increased happiness, and the ever elusive peace of mind we all want. It’s a matter of obedience. God wants us to fulfill our responsibilities. It’s all part of being enrolled in His school of character building. Speaking of school, can you remember when you were a kid and you knew you had homework to do, but you weren’t doing it? It tainted your play. It’s the same way for grown ups.
Bottom Line
Nike had it right: sometimes we’ve got to “just do it.” God has given you a Spirit-empowered will that is capable of obedient action.
