Biblical Optimism

Mountains

Every one of God’s promises is “Yes” in Him. Therefore, the “Amen” is also spoken through Him by us for God’s glory. (2 Cor. 1:20)

More than Positive Thinking

Biblical optimism is utterly realistic. It knows that everything may not be great at the moment, but that doesn’t mean things won’t be great later because God is great and His promises are greatly to be trusted. This means we don’t have to pretend that the bad things we experience in life are somehow good in and of themselves. They’re not. They’re bad. They’re the result of living in a fallen world. We just need to believe that every one of God’s promises is true, including this familiar one in Romans 8:28: “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.”

Living with Confidence

Practically speaking, the Christian should be of good cheer. We can be confident that God is with us no matter what. We can hold our heads high, not ceding the ground of promised blessing but living in the shadow of future glory and victory.

Our number-one enemy is the devil and his continuous stream of lies. When we listen to him, we become discouraged. We temporarily forfeit the victory that is ours in Jesus. But there’s no reason for this to happen, to let him get in our heads. Not every thought that enters your mind originated with you. Just speak the truth to yourself and move on.

Bottom Line

A Christian has every reason to be optimistic because God’s promises in Christ are all true. So stand firm in your confidence no matter what.
