You’ve Got Talent

Mountains

I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours. (Matt. 25:25)

Use It or Lose It

During the latter part of Jesus’ ministry, He told His disciples about a man going on a journey. The man called his servants together and gave the first servant five talents (a measure of currency). Another received two, while another got one. A talent was a weight of precious metal that some experts believe was worth $250,000. So even the servant with one talent had nothing to complain about.

The first two servants put the money to work and doubled it. But the last servant didn’t even try to increase his talent—just buried it in the ground, then dug it back up unchanged when his boss returned. The master immediately took away the talent and gave it to the man with ten.

Investing Your Talent

Can you see yourself in this story? Which man are you? God entrusts us with many things. He expects us to be good stewards and do the best we can with His talents. Instead of being fearful during tough economic times, we need to be looking for ways to invest in God’s kingdom. Hiding our money in the ground won’t benefit the Master, and it won’t help His investment grow. Pray for godly wisdom and always seek to use your money and resources to serve God and His kingdom. Ultimately, He has provided everything we have so we shouldn’t fear losing it.

Bottom Line

While fear keeps us from using our talents, faith multiplies talent. Be faithful with what God has given you.
