Hey There, Young Man
Hey There, Young Man

Let no one despise your youth; instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (1 Tim. 4:12)
Seeking a Position?
You attended the men’s retreat, but everybody was your dad’s age or older. You’re too young to be considered as a Sunday school teacher, you feel out of place in the choir, and the last thing you want to do is serve on a committee. Should you leave and attend a church with more people your own age? Not necessarily.
Many churches find it challenging to plug young adults into ministry. But just because you can’t seem to find a way to serve doesn’t mean you should hop to another church full of young singles. God can still do great things in your life while you patiently wait on Him.
Seeking God Himself
Don’t seek position but God Himself. It’s easy to throw stones and criticize the church. Instead of doing that, try to listen twice as much as you speak—and when you speak, make sure what you’re saying is constructive. Learn to view everyone you meet as someone God wants to use to teach you something. Be a quiet example of Christ to others.
Adopting this approach may lead you to begin working with preschoolers or taking out the trash after a church fellowship. But volunteer for the job no one wants, and shine for Christ through it. Perform your labor of love as to the Lord. He may not give you position, but you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you served Him alone, whether you received recognition or not.
Bottom Line
Live as an example of Christ, no matter what your age.
