A Good Thing

Mountains

A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. (Prov. 18:22)

Marital Monotony

You walked the aisle. You said the vows. You exchanged the rings. You kissed. Now it’s smooth sailing through wedded bliss. Or is it? Many marriages encounter stormy seas as spouses get busy in the details and responsibilities of everyday life.

Maybe you can relate to this scenario. One evening you’re talking with your wife and she mentions that you haven’t brought her flowers lately. You respond by: (a) reminding her about all the stuff you have given her; (b) telling her she ruined the surprise because you were planning to bring her flowers but now you’re not; or (c) surprising her with a huge bouquet the next morning in bed. Hopefully, you went with the last option.

Revving Up Romance

Obviously the issue isn’t a lack of flowers; it’s a lack of romance. Dating doesn’t end at “I do.” Spending consistent, meaningful, private time together—whether once a week or once a month—will remind you why you tied the knot in the first place. And the benefits of better communication, increased romance, and feeling connected aren’t too bad either. As Proverbs 18:22 says, finding your wife was “a good thing”—one of the best things that ever happened to you. So don’t take God’s gift of your spouse for granted. Honor your wife with little gifts, notes, and loving words—and most important, with a heart that truly beats to love and cherish her. That will go a long way toward reigniting your relationship.

Bottom Line

Take the lead in keeping the spark alive in your marriage. Be romantic!
